Island Project, Gibraltar

A few shots of the Island project just off Queensway Quay.  This week has seen massive progress as a major part of the island’s profile is completed with cement caissons which have been dropped into place.

The construction itself is slightly controversial in Gibraltar with each of the 16(18?) houses going for around GBP1.8M each!  Works on the reclamation itself should be completed in the next couple of months.  Watch the blog for more updates.

NOTE: I’ll be taking a break from posting this long weekend but expect new photos next week.

DIY island building. With land so scarce a resource in Gibraltar land reclamation is one of the few options for new builds as this Island project takes off.

Yachts and luxury homes are fast becomming Gibraltar's niche market.

How to build your own island. Bring in some pre-fabricated cement caissons, sink them into the ground and bob's your uncle. Work is progressing fast in Gibraltar's most luxurious development.

Gibraltar Fair

Today’s post comes to you courtesy of the Gibraltar fair. This is an annual event which celebrates Gibraltar’s National Day (10th September 2005). The reason that it is not held at the same time as the National Day is so that it does not interfere with the school calendar which gets going next week.

I hope you enjoy these photographs which are mainly of people in and around the fair-ground.
