Another lazy Sunday

Another lazy Sunday in Gibraltar.  The weather has still not made its mind up whether autumn is here or not although it is already markedly cooler in recent days.
Cross of Sacrifice, Sir Winston Churchill Avenue.
Saw this an it reminded me of Miami! There is an interesting juxtaposition between the two palm trees and the tower blocks behind!

Lunch-time Monarch Flight. End of the summer is here, Eastern Beach is next to empty, a balmy Levanter settles in and the lunch time flight arrives. Little changes.

It’s the first cool Sunday of the Summer.  The sun is out the tourists are lazing about town and I’m out with my camera.  Some shots of a lazy Sunday morning in September.

National Day 2005

Another year and another National Day celebrations.  A riot of red and white peppering the streets as the masses gathered for the main event of the day.  The political rally at Casemates which ends with the releasing of 30,000 balloons and the start of the fun, the street party!

Taxi

Gibraltar’s most successful recording band in recent times was Melon Diesel.   Because of differences of opinion that was disbanded but leading components of that group reformed under the Taxi name.  It looks like the new band is to follow on the lines of the old with the debut album being in the Spanish charts almost since its release.

The local concert was to mark the start of National Week celebrations and the free concert was a great success.  Crowds filled the Casemates Square and even despite a very late start, was enjoyed by all.
Taxi's Dylan Ferro

Great stage presence
They evenmanaged to break a guitar during the performance! That's rock'n'roll!

And the crowd were loving it!

Milbajac

What a great start to National Week celebrations, Gibraltar’s upcoming band Milbajac supporting the best recording band to come out of Gibraltar, Taxi.  Milbajac has a good following amongst the local crowd who knew all of the tracks from their recently remixed album.
A great performance by another of Gibraltar's upcomming bands, Milbajac.

Breed 77 concert

A superb concert was held tonight in Gibraltar.  The best of Gibraltarian Rock was on display.  Breed 77 was the main act and was not to disappoint but was hot on the heels of two excellent warm up bands.
Breed 77's lead singer (Paul Isola) gives it all.
Play that music right boy.
There's something about hairy men in hot pants......
Out of the light comes music.
So many options.
Drum roll Mr Isola...
This crowd was here for one reason and one reason alone, Breed 77.
Quite a drum kit and by the sound of things tonight, all were well used!

Seven Sins

Seven Sins was the second warm-up act for Breed 77 and they definitely knew how to please the crowd. No doubt we will be seeing and hearing a lot from this band in the months to come.

The crowd was loving it.
Now we are talking!
Let's party !
Getting into the swing of things.
Here we go with Seven Sins.
Get ready for Seven Sins.

Adrian, Eric and Friends

First warm-up act of the night and it was not disappointing. The well known style of this group got the crowd well in the mood for what was to follow.

RAF Community Day - 2005

The RAF has decided to hold a community day again this year.  Apart from the static displays a Hawk trainer and Tornado fighter awed the crowds with some impressive (and noisy) flying!

Guard Mount - Battle of Britain

Today’s ceremonial guard mount at the Convent was performed by Royal Air Force Gibraltar.  This is in honour of the Battle of Britain commemorations.  What is outstanding from this mornings mount is that the new guard was comprised of an all female troop.  They performed outstandingly.
Pipers of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment Band who gave a superb and original rendition.

Land frontier situation

Decided to take a look at the situation at the land frontier between Gibraltar and Spain as there were reports that the recent industrial action by the Spanish National Police had been resolved.  This is what I found.  Does not look any different to me!
Spanish Police continue to check each and every person's documents before allowing them to cross into Gibraltar. This is the greatest cause for delays in entering the Rock.
Cars and pedestrians stream into Gibraltar either as tourists or workers.
Gibraltar Immigration and Customs officials wait for their Spanish counterparts to finish.

Early morning at Gibraltar's beaches

Decided to take an early morning stroll through some beaches in Gibraltar.  A typical day for September with a heavy levanter cloud adding to the atmosphere.
